Cross Country Clinic with Cheryl Bezants
Fun was had by all on Sunday 7th at Mini Mattingley, lovely to meet some new Members too.
With 3 groups of 4 and no horse or rider the same was a joy to watch as well as take part.
Area Show Jumping Qualifier, Crofton Manor, 18th Feb.
This year we sent two teams and two indivuals to the Show Jumping Qualifier at Crofton. We had a senior 80/85cm team; Sophie Edwards, Emma Kirby and Rachel Muller. A junior 90/95cm team; Poppy Hebberd, Jessica Fisher Oliver and Maddie Dowek and our two individuals Kirsty Oliver and Rachel Muller competed in the 100/105cm class.
The day went really well with some lovely clear rounds in all classes. Team Trainer Cheryl Bezants was on hand to help in the warm up and to support us all between rounds and we also had the support of our member helpers Janet and Sam Kirby, Debby Booth and Lisa Arnold.
After the first round it looked like we may have qualified the senior 80cm team as we all went clear. However, in the second round a premature takeoff from Sophie's gelding Jake meant a pole down and Emma's horse just wasn't feeling it the second time around and so Rachel Muller was the only double clear.
The juniors had mixed results across the two rounds with a perfect double clear for Poppy and a 4th place! Jess and Maddie both worked hard under tricky circumstances and we look forward to seeing them both on future teams.
In the 100cm Rachel Muller rode her second horse and won a bottle of fizz from the club for hardest working member on the day! But the real result of the day was new member Kirsty Oliver who rode a fantastic double clear and was placed second which resulted in her securing her place at the Championships at the end of April! Well Done Kirsty!!
Thanks to all our team members and helpers, it was a really fun day out!

Farriers Finger Print Does The BRC National Championships
A not so bright but very early start Buster, Simon and myself set off for Lincoln after qualifying a month or so earlier. Massive thank you to Simon for sharing the driving and generally supporting.
We entered both the Veteran horse (Buster is 21 years young) and the individual senior prelim test, Buster proved that he has still got the moves and made my first BRC National Championships a winning one with a win in the veteran final with 76% and then we were 2nd in the Senior Prelim test with 74%, and we got to come home with a few prizes and extra polos for Buster
Due to Finger Print living in the New Forest and myself in Farnham I only managed to ride him at weekends between the qualifier and final and credit must go to Finger Print for his performance and him not needing any reminders about dressage as we generally went for rides across the forest and yep I did manage steer him in the wrong direction, I’m sure he rolled his eyes at my amateur mistake, after careful ‘worried’ checking the result wouldn’t of been different had the sat nav worked!
A massive thankyou to Simon and Shirley Young of the Farriers stud for the support and ride on their lovely ponies and Buster apologizes to the Enthusiasts for being a traitor, but I think it was worth it.

My day at the BRC Area 17 Dressage qualifier
A case of third time lucky with Buster,
Farriers Finger Print dusted off his competition tack to stand in for his son (Wizard) at almost the last moment for the Area dressage, quite literally just taking a morning off from stud duties. I rode him for the first time on the Monday before the competition, and the Sunday of the competition was the 3rd time. For those of you who follow showing you may of heard of him, he has pretty much won everything a New Forest pony stallion can and in my mind an absolute legend, so I was overly excited and privileged just to be able to ride him.
He proved himself to be the professional that he is and we got 73% in the riding test, followed by 74% in the prelim. I would like to take some credit for the tests but Buster made it so easy for me and all I felt I had to do was steer and tell him how fast, which admittedly I didn’t quite get right all the time, the last halt was definitely a bit late!
After a longish wait we found out that we had won our arena for the prelim test and are Lincoln bound and the best bit is that I get to ride him again, and were 4th in the Prelim riding test. I would like to thank Julie, Sue & Roger for their support on the day and of course Simon & Shirley Young of the Farriers Stud for the ride on such a legend. By Debby Booth

My day at Keysoe – KBIS Novice Championships – Prelim Final for all the best qualified individuals
After taking part in the qualifier in the Autumn and ending up a very close second I filed away any thoughts of dressage and set sail for a hard winters hunting on my versatile Welsh Cob Foxy. William, my 8 year old son, and I share him so he had a busy winter as I had been badly kicked so couldn’t ride my baby horses. One week he hunted four full days in eight!. About two weeks before the championships Sam got in touch to say the person above me had dropped out so I could go. After a slight wobble about wanting to drive for three hours for a five minute test I committed, Sam thank you so much for enthusing me. The Fantastic Mr Fox had to live up to his name and had one week to transform from a hunter to a dressage horse having not done a circle since qualifying. I flew to Yvonne for a dressage lesson giving her the brief of ‘it’s too close to change us but please teach me how best to hide the faults!’ What a job she did, Yvonne you are brilliant. In the days before the competition Sue and Roger said they were coming to watch which was a real boost as although it is a privilege to represent the club it was going to be a bit of a lonely old trip, just me and my old pony. After setting my alarm at three (not required as I was so worried about oversleeping I did not sleep at all!) I put my very confused pony in the trailer and set off for Keysoe at 3.30am. I arrived at about 7.20 in good time for the vet check and a warm up before my test at 8.43am. Sue and Roger arrived very soon after me so it was brilliant to have help, support and encouragement right from the off. Fortunately Foxy and I have been a team for 15 years so the lack of practice was not an issue and my main goal was to trust in my instinct and keep the working in short and hope he didn’t get lit up by the flags. Foxy has been on the big stage before but not for a while but he’s so old and wise he knew when he saw those white boards that nothing exciting was going to happen! Foxy pulled out all the stops and tried his heart out and apart from putting his head up once when the photographer popped up from behind the hedge I knew we had gone about as well as we could given the lack of practice. I was able to phone Yvonne and say I was first out of three but it was a long wait until the end of the class. Roger and Sue were wonderful and after filing me up with a huge breakfast we sat watching the rest. Every time the scores came up and were below me we gave a little cheer. Amazingly there was only one groan and we finished second and the quiet cheer turned into a dance and hugs, it was lovely to have someone to celebrate with. It was then a mad rush to re plait Foxy for the prize giving. It was a brilliant day and I would like to thank everyone who gave me so much support and encouragement and I am glad we did HRRC proud.
