December update

Dear Members

Happy New Year to you all. We hope you had a lovely Christmas with your families and horses.

December was a fairly quiet month in terms of clinics but we did have the annual Christmas Fancy Dressage at Priory which saw some lovely costumes and tests.

We are already working hard to book clinics for the new year and the ones already booked are detailed below. This year we are committed to clinics with a wide variety of trainers to cover as many disciplines as possible and these will all have some club member discount applied and many will be the usual £20 per member which is excellent value as private lessons continue to rise in cost so please make the most of these!

Membership Renewal
If you haven't already renewed your membership please do so asap. Details are all on the website but if you need any help do get in touch with Janet and she will give you any guidance you might need; hrrc.membership@gmail.com Remember you can't access the club activities and discounts without an up to date membership!

Social
A few of us are going to the Arena Eventing at Highbrook stables in Liss on 26th Jan and would love to see any other HRRC members there too. Classes start at just 60cm and go up to 1m so perfect for all abilities! Let me know if you're planning to go and we'll make sure we all meet up.

Following the success of our Sports Psycology Workshop we are in the planning stages of a rider balance workshop and I will send more details soon.

Call For Teams!
February 17th is the Winter Novice and Intermediate Show Jumping Qualifiers at Moreton Equestrian Centre in Dorset. What's more the club will pay half of your entry fee and if you are placed the club will reimburse the other half! There is no pressure to be the best we will just have a fun day out with the club. Transport sharing is also possible if this is an issue for you. Schedule attached.

Dear Members

I hope this email finds you all warm and dry not wet through and covered in mud!

It's been a busy month so far and here are the highlights;

New Clinics
We've had a number of new clinics this month with new instructors all organised by Tara Chance and she has had fantastic feedback on them. Sam McEwan was very popular and one member had this to say;

Sam McEwan immediately put me at my ease, explaining that she had competed a traditional cob herself at dressage and currently competed native ponies. We first worked on my contact and Sam ensured I was aware of the feel that I should have with him. Once he began to soften then we worked on pushing his energy into the contact and finished with some leg yielding and cantering (work in progress!). Sam is an extremely positive instructor and I came out of the lesson tired but beaming with lots of information on what I should be doing out hacking etc to strengthen Ben. I am looking forward to the next lesson!

We have more new and returning instructors booked for Dec and the New Year so check the dates out below and on our website.

Website
Speaking of the website Alessandra (AB as we know her) has been hard at work updating and rejigging it to make it more accessible and relevant to our members, this is a work in progress so keep checking to see what she's been up to!

Arena Eventing Qualifier Sat 24 & Sun 25 Nov, Bovington
We had such a blast at the Arena Eventing Qualifier at Bovington EC in Dorset last weekend. We had a Senior 80cm team which consisted of me, Jo Young, Laura Southgate and Deb Stern. This was the first time as SJ Manager I've managed to get a team of 4 instead of just 3 so I was really pleased. None of us had ever competed in Arena Eventing before and to say we were nervous was an understatement! We competed on the Saturday and after a small transport issue and me being rescued by Debby Booth in her lorry we got there and just about managed to walk the course before warming up. The course itself was very long, 18 jumps, 9 SJ and 9 XC. There are rules that need to be adhered to such as passing through set flags between jumps and an optimum time is set, this caused many a lot of problems as did navigation around the long course. So how did we do? I've done a bit of post match analysis (sorry if this bores you!) Out of 41 Senior 80cm riders there were only 13 double clears of which myself and Laura were two. Laura got no time faults and was placed individual 4th, a really great achievement! Deb Stern jumped round clear in both phases but unfortunately a slight wrong turn meant she missed passing through a set of flags and was eliminated. However, she was over the moon to jump clear. Jo Young also jumped clear until a course error at jump 15 and the bell rang, she too was over the moon to have flown round so well. The winning team only had two double clears but were quick which is so encouraging for our Rookie team as without course errors we would have definitely been in the ribbons. Now we need to focus on good course walking and speeding up!

On the Sunday Kirsty Oliver competed her two stallions in the 1m class as an individual. Squashy glided round clear in style and they narrowly missed out on a placing having just 1.2 time faults. Cowboy Joe (or "the maniac" as Kirsty described him) was champing at the bit to get in the ring and flew round with just one down. It was the first time at Arena Eventing for both horses and it's fair to say they loved the experience! We are all really looking forward to trying this out again next year and hope many of you will join us.

Christmas Fancy Dressage, Dec 9th, Priory
Our annual Christmas Dressage Competition is on 9th Dec at Priory EC. I've attached the schedule and entries close soon so get yours in asap! There are classes for everyone including lead rein, pairs and fancy dress is optional. Mince pies and festive beverages will be available and it's sure to be a fun friendly day not to be missed!

AGM
Our AGM was a great evening and we had a really good turnout of around 45 members. I've attached some pictures of the night. We said goodbye to some of our hardworking committee who will be sadly missed. A run down of our committee changes are;
Chairman - Sam Kirby stepped down and replaced by Roger Muttit
Secretary - Debby Booth stepped down and replaced by Sophie Edwards
President - Jane Fox stepped down and replaced by Sam Kirby
New Committee Members sworn in - Tara Chance, Tracey Curry, Emma Moffat, Jessica Blowers.

The night also saw the handing out of lots of our trophies to our deserving members. These were;

Most Improved Member - Alessandra Hess (AB)
Team Trainer Award (Yvonne Nailor) - Wayne Brazier
Team Trainer Award (Kirsty Oliver) - Sophie Edwards

December Clinics
Show Jumping
After a very busy year I'm taking a short break this month from organising set clinics but if you feel you're missing out you can still book a discounted £20 lesson with our two jump trainers Cheryl Bezants and Kirsty Oliver at their yards in Bramdean and West Tisted. Cheryl also runs regular clinics around the county so keep an eye on her Facebook page to find out what she has coming up. I will release January clinic dates soon.

Dressage/Flat Work
Dec 1 Tanya Guy, OMP Stud. Contact Tara Chance: HRRC.tarachance@gmail.com

Dec 1/2 Yvonne Nailor, New Park Farm. Contact Sue Muttit: HRRC.treasurer@gmail.com

Dec 16 Sam McEwan, OMP Stud. Contact Tara Chance.

All clinics are grouped according to your abilities and are £20 per member. Some clinics are to be paid for on line in advance and some to be paid direct to the trainer on the day, please check with the person you book through and remember when paying for clinics or anything on line to put your name, date and which clinic or item you are paying for so that Sue our treasurer doesn't have to get her Poirot costume out and start acting as detective!

We already have flatwork lessons booked in the new year with Yvonne, Sam and new instructor; International Dressage Rider and Trainer, Tor Fernwick. For more information please check out our website and contact the relevant committee member.

We have plans for specialist pole and gridwork sessions in the New Year as well as Endurance Training Introduction sessions. If there is a discipline you are interested in but not covered by our clinics please do get in touch.

That's all for now, these emails are getting very long and a bit dull so in the New Year I'll work on making a proper Newsletter format. Have a great December and stay in touch!

Sophie and the HRRC Committee

Dear Members

I hope this finds you well and you're enjoying the lovely weather with your horses and ponies. If any of you have been up to anything interesting with your horses please do let us know, we'd love to share it on our Facebook page as a way of building a community between members.

Team News
This month saw us hosting the Area Dressage Qualifiers at Sparsholt College on the wettest day possible! It literally couldn't have been wetter. The judge I was writing for was missing a window in our judges box and so spent the morning trying to stop a small river from flowing into her lap! One arena looked more like an extreme Cross Country water obstacle and all the competitors, horses, and volunteers got drenched. One of the wettest sights was poor Sam Kirby calling two consecutive tests in a downpour, I've seen a photo but thought better of sharing it with you all! However, the day ran smoothly thanks to Sam and the Committee's huge efforts, it takes such a lot of work to run an event like this and the team put in a lot of hours preparation. Huge thanks also to our members who represented the club on the day; Tara Chance, Lea Seward and Kate Andrews who brought home a first place in her Novice test, well done Kate!

Evening Workshop
We had an excellent turn out of nearly 60 for our workshop with Jenni Winters of Flying Changes Coaching and had some lovely feedback about her inspiring renewed goal setting and confidence in our own abilities. We may organise a follow up workshop in the new year if it is something our members would be interested in.

Arena Eventing Qualifier
We have a Senior 80cm team (me, Jo Young, Laura Southgate and Deb Stern) and Kirsty Oliver is riding two horses as an individual in the 1m class. Kirsty has kindly offered her indoor school for some informal training in the lead up and we have the Lower Peake training with Cheryl so hopefully our team of first timers will be feeling prepared on the day!

AGM
This looks to be a great night and you should all have received your invite and menu choices. We have lots of trophies to award to our hardworking members and also have two new "Trainer's Awards" chosen by Cheryl Bezants and Yvonne Nailor. There will be complimentary wine on arrival, a raffle and Janet's legendary quiz afterwards! Please let Janet know your food choices if you'd like to eat. Any donations of raffle prizes will be appreciated. You will also be able to handover your club membership renewal so please bring that along too.
